Furman Invitational on Feb. 4
The University of South Carolina will open the 2023 Spring 7s campaign at the Furman University Invitational 7s this Saturday.
The eight-team field also includes Furman, Lander, Belmont-Abbey, Georgia, the Citadel, Kentucky and Clemson. All games will be played at John S. Roberts Rugby Field, which is located next to Paladin (football) Stadium on the Furman campus.
USC head coach John Roberts, for whom the stadium is named, coached at Furman for 20 and led the program to three small college national championships. His 2016 Paladin team was a Division II finalist.
This Spring, the Gamecocks will look to build upon last year’s remarkable 7s season, which saw USC capture the SCRC championship and compile a 25-11-1 record, including a 6-3 record in two national championship tournaments.
“We are looking forward to our first run-out,” said Roberts. “We will be traveling with 20 guys and a lot of new 7s players. Our main focus will be to evaluate our new players and begin to develop some chemistry and combinations.”
