Coming off a March 26 tournament win in Athens, the Gamecocks will face stiffer competition this Sunday when the program hosts The Gamecock 7s Invitational at 1101 Bluff Road.
The Tournament field includes powerful conference rivals Clemson and D1-AA National Champion Tennessee. Division II power Furman, Lander University (a varsity program) and the University of Georgia will also participate.
South Carolina and Clemson will both field B-sides for the tournament. The Gamecocks are 11-6-1 this spring.
“The team has put together some quality wins and played well at times. Other times, we have struggled,” said Coach John Roberts. “We are improving, though. And this weekend will be a great test as the field is strong.”
The tournament is a “friendly” which means it does not count toward league standings. The Gamecocks’ hopes of qualifying for nationals will be determined April 23-24 at the SCRC 7s Championship Tournament.
