Columbia, SC – A gauntlet of
matches took place at USC's STWFC Rugby
Field this weekend, as the USC 'C' side
was in action against The Citadel's 'A'
side, falling just short at 00-10. The
match was followed by a combined USC
'A/B' side striking the iron early
against its alumni (the Carolina Olde
Boys) and never looking back. This
year's COB festivities, a celebration of
the club's 42nd birthday, saw an
improved Olde Boy turnout from the year
before, including many recent graduates.
A special thanks also goes out to the
many veteran Olde Boys who participated
once again, particularly those who
traveled in from out of town.
USC's men's matches were followed by the
USC women's team taking on their local
affiliate Columbia Bombshells, as well
as a post-match auctioning of USC's old
white jerseys. Next weekend, all three
Carolina sides will be traveling to
Boone, NC for the 2009 Rucktoberfest
Rugby Tournament on the campus of
Appalahcian State University. This
year's tournament will be played over
Sat., October 3rd - Sun., October 4th,
and has been expanded to include a full
second division (B/C-side) tournament,
as well as a high school showcase. USC
enters the tournament an early favorite,
alongside App. State, Clemson, and clubs
from the Mid-Atlantic territorial union. |
