Columbia, SC –
With the 2009 Fall Freshman class set to
be the largest in University history, it
seems only fitting that the USC Men’s
Rugby Team has broken its own
recruitment record. With the help of
Campus Recreation, the Gamecocks have
been able to reach a respectable number
of freshman students through the use of
flyers and promotional material at
various locations around campus. In
addition to on-campus organizational
fairs, the long-standing partnership
with the South Carolina High School
Rugby League, and numerous out-of-state
commitments, Fall 2009 has been the best
recruiting season in club history with
more than 75 regular participants
attending team training sessions.
Not only do the Gamecocks now stand as
the largest club in the state of South
Carolina, they also hail as the largest
in the entire South territory, well
ahead of universities such as Arkansas
State, Tennessee, & Clemson. More
importantly, USC Men's Rugby currently
stands as the 3rd largest club in the
nation (usarugby.org) with 79 players
and coaches CIPPed for the Fall Season.

Founded in 1967, the USC Men’s Rugby
Club is the oldest club sport at USC,
boasting a long and distinguished record
of success over the years. Since its
conception, the team has always
maintained the policy that everyone has
the opportunity to play regardless of
skill or ability. With this philosophy,
the Gamecocks have been able to grow
their roster to 75+ individuals,
enabling them to field three sides on
any given game weekend. The Palmetto
C-side serves as their developmental
side, currently competing in Division 3
with its own schedule and coaching
staff. USC Men’s Rugby is proud to claim
that they are the only team in South
Division 1 that has three sides of
competitive ruggers.
