Our Queensland Connection

Picture
Through a Sister-State agreement adopted in 2020 between the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and the State of Queensland, Australia, students from Queensland may attend the University of South Carolina at “in-state” tuition rates.

Here’s what it means:
The University of South Carolina is a state-supported institution which means tax dollars from South Carolina residents help fund the university. As such, USC students who are also state residents pay less for tuition than students who live in another state or country. This Sister-State agreement, renewed annually, extends in-state tuition to residents of Queensland. For 2022-23, USC annual tuition expenses for in-state students is $12,688 compared to $33,928 for residents of other states or countries. For a breakdown of complete costs, view our tuition cost page.

What about travel costs?
Accepted Queensland students may receive a grant from the Carolina Rugby Foundation to help pay for travel-related expenses. Queensland students also receive a $1,000 grant from the Foundation to cover their annual dues to the South Carolina men’s rugby team.

Why USC rugby?
Members of the USC rugby team do more than compete and practice together. They live together, share meals and party together. Each March, members of our team travel to Florida for spring break. The team organizes tailgates before USC football games and many other socials. So, when you get here, you’re already connected. You’ll have 50 best-friends. USC plays rugby at a very high level. We have a paid full-time coach who has won three national championships. In 2022, both our 15s and 7s teams were ranked in the top 10 by National Collegiate Rugby. As a member of the USC rugby team, you’ll get to visit other big Southeastern universities including Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Clemson, Kentucky and others.
