Message from COB V.P. Rick LaBel
I would like to thank all those Carolina Olde Boys that attended this past weekend's reunion. Despite scheduling conflicts, the bad economy, and family issues many of you tweaked your schedule and attended either Friday's event at the Thirsty Fellow or Saturday's tailgating and football game.
We also had some stay for our Sunday morning open Board meeting. WE APPRECIATE YOU COMING AND MAKING THE EFFORT TO BE HERE WITH OLD FRIENDS. We all share a passion for the sport of rugby and I can personally tell you, because of this comaraderie, that I include you among many friends that I am so fortunate to have. You and I are part of the ever growing rugby family. We had a record turnout and I am sure that most of you picked up the message about our desire to transform CAROLINA RUGBY into a stronger force and be able to compete nationally like we used to. That was a long time ago and a lot has changed since then. The rules are different. The kids have a different mindset and the level of club organization and coaching has improved.
It takes some effort on the part of all who have been associated with Carolina Rugby. It will take time and money and your support to get it to the next level. Just by attending you have shown your support, but as most of you know if we really want to see Carolina Rugby AGAIN be in the top 5 in the country and have a chance of being NATIONAL COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONS it will take more.

As we put fresh blood and new ideas on the board of the Foundation and have an Advisory Board in place, I ask that you embrace this change and please put your two cents in in the form of opinions about how to help the club. Communicate on the website through the different media that has been put in place. WE ALL WANT IT TO BE THE VERY BEST PROGRAM out there for a young person coming to college and that wants to play for the best. We must recruit, and to do that effectively we have to have something to offer.
OLDE BOY's are an essential part of this. If you could take time this week and just write down a few names of guys you played with that you have not heard from we can access data banks and try and find them to be able to more than double our current list of over 300. After 45 years we should have many more than we do. Give a guy a call that was not there this past weekend and share with him the good time you had. A collective effort would have an extremely positive impact on the program. We will all have a role to play in this effort. Some, who are able, can contribute financially through our 501-C3 status; others can contribute by volunteering to help coach, call individuals from your college days, or just be there when we need your support. We have a great legacy to continue to build on. Thanks again in advance for your effort and I look forward to working with you to make CAROLINA RUGBY the very best. Rick LeBel |
