Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center Rugby Field

Picture
The Rugby Field at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center is a secondary pitch for the Men's Rugby Team. Opened in spring of 2007, the field has served as a showcase for rugby in the Southeast, in what many opponents have described as "the most beautiful field they've ever seen in college rugby." The field lays adjacent to the university's awe-inspiring Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center and the impressive USC Greek Village system, with views of the STWFC pool, the university's Colonial Life Arena, the historic Carolina Coliseum, and the horizon-dominating Williams-Brice Stadium. The field is also a hub for activity, as it is located in the heart of the university's new InnoVista research area.

Did you know? The field's first ever event was hosted by the men's rugby team, as Carolina Rugby defeated Kennesaw State University, 47-10, on February 3rd, 2007.

Gameday Information

Please arrive for games at least 15 minutes prior to kick-off, both to ensure you make it to the match on time and to enjoy our pre-match festivities. Matches may be cancelled, match times may be changed, or opponents may be changed at any time, so please keep up-to-date with us here at uscrugby.org. We ask that our spectators respect our field rope and stand at least 5m away from the pitch at all times in accordance to USA Rugby's safety regulations.

Pitch Rules

1. No alcohol of any form is allowed on the pitch, open or not.
2. In accordance with University of South Carolina wellness policy, tobacco and other smoking products are not allowed on the pitch.
3. No dogs or other pets are allowed on the pitch.
4. No person may play golf or in any other way advertently harm the playing surface.

Parking Information

1. The host team generally suggests parking next to the Coliseum, located across Blossom Street from the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center. There are also a number of meter spots along Assembly Street, as the City of Columbia does not assess meter fines on the weekend. Visitors may take the Access Bridge (AB1) across Blossom Street, as this is a busy avenue in Columbia.
2. We strongly suggest you do NOT park in the Greene's parking lot.
3. Do NOT park in the STWC Lot south of Blossom Street or in the Greek Village if you do not have a pass for these lots. You will be towed if you do so.
4. Additional street parking is available on Sumter Street, which is two blocks from the SWTFC Rugby Field, and near the Blatt P.E. Center Rugby Field. Visitors may reach the STWFC Rugby Field by walking down Wheat Street and then taking the Access Bridge (AB2) across busy Assembly Street. As is the case along Assembly Street, the City of Columbia does not enforce its parking meters on the weekends (Saturday & Sunday).
5. Please be aware of the areas on the venue map labeled 'No Parking.' USC and the City of Columbia will not hesitate to tow illegally parked vehicles.
