Student Success Center

The Student Success Center (SSC) facilitates student learning and degree completion by providing a comprehensive array of programs, resources, and services that advance academic goal-setting, skill development, personal transition to and within the university setting, and effective decision making. The Student Success Center empowers students to achieve their academic and personal goals via opportunities for enhanced learning, interpersonal development, personal responsibility, and leadership. All of their programs and initiatives are free to Carolina Rugby players.

As partners with the Carolina Rugby program, the Student Success Center monitors the academic progress of over 65 student athletes while providing both peer based and professional services to assist with the transfer to university life and to ensure long-term success. All players are held accountable to their academic standing, both individually and collectively, and must complete a number of requirements to remain in good standing and to be eligible for potential scholarships.

Peer Leadership

The Student Success Center coordinates intentionally-designed and comprehensive programs, resources, and services that guide Carolina Rugby players  to degree completion at USC. Students can serve in a few different capacities as Peer Leaders in the Student Success Center. Through these peer leadership opportunities, they help undergraduate students engage in goal-setting and skill development, personal transition to the university setting, and effective decision-making. Peer Leaders are trained through the College Reading and Learning Association International Training Certification to provide quality assistance to enrolled USC students that will empower them to be independent learners.

Success Consultants

All incoming first-year  Carolina Rugby players  are assigned to a Success Consultant in the SSC. The role of the Success Consultant is to assist students in the transition to a four-year university and serve as a resource to students by answering questions. Each Success Consultant is a trained resource for new students and serves as an ambassador for college level academic expectations: bringing their knowledge of campus resources and procedures to students who may be unsure of their new academic surroundings. Players should consult with their Success Consultant a minimum of 3 times a semester.
